Vote for Climate! We'll get the job done

CE candidates for saving climate

Press release - 2007-02-04
“We’ll get the job done!”, announced today by “Bowtie Tsang” and “Pocket Handkerchief Leong” who are in for the Chief Executive election. They criticized the lack of commitment of the two current CE candidates to combat climate change, which shames Hong Kong of not living up to the name of “Asia’s World City”. The two “CE candidates for climate” would pursue series of actions in the coming month to seek an open commitment from Mr. Donald Tsang and Mr. Alan Leong of their plans for Hong Kong on climate change.

“Bowtie Tsang” and “Pocket Handkerchief Leong” naked their top, painted the word “HOT” and “superman dressing” in their bodies. They also wore a pair of swim-sleeves and started their election campaign by distributing their “climate platform” to pedestrians in Causeway Bay, with a very sharp banner “Vote for Climate!”. Their activity attracted lots of public attention.

This afternoon, "Bowtie Tsang" and "Pocket Handkerchief Leong" naked their top, painted the word "HOT" and "superman dressing" in their bodies. They also wore a pair of swim-sleeves and started their election campaign by distributing their "climate platform" to pedestrians in Causeway Bay, with a very sharp banner "Vote for Climate!". Their activity attracted lots of public attention.

"I am worried that Hong Kong temperatures will further increase. Also, Central and buildings around the Victoria Harbor are at serious risk of submerge under sea if the sea level continues to rise. If you do not want to wear swim suit to work or to school, you should support us as the Chief Executive!" "Bowtie Tsang" said.

"Pocket Handkerchief Leong" is also very enthusiastic to explain their "climate platform". He said, "We should have vision. Who dare to run for an election without climate policy? "Bowtie Tsang" and I myself would try whatever means to push for a climate commitment from Mr. Donald Tsang and Mr. Alan Leong."

In their joint "climate platform", "Bowtie Tsang" and "Pocket Handkerchief Leong" expressed their deep worries to the latest findings by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) "Fourth Assessment Report" that in the worst scenario, the global average temperature is likely to increase between 1.1°C to 6.4°C above 1980-1999 levels by 2095. Nevertheless, not even a single word on the issue was mentioned in the platform of Mr. Donald Tsang, and Mr. Alan Leong only described in a few words. It shows both Donald and Alan are poorly informed and far behind the global political debate.

Frances Yeung, Greenpeace Campaigner, showed her full support to the "CE for climate". She is going to issue a letter to all Legislative Council members to support the "Vote for Climate" initiative and push climate policy forward. "World leaders are taking actions for climate. As the Chief Executive of the "Asia's World City", he or she needs to seriously implement the Kyoto Protocol and establish greenhouse gases reduction targets as well as action plan. We have no time to wait. Actions before we regret."
