Vote for Clean Air

Feature Story - 2005-02-18
The existing Air Quality Objectives (AQO) in Hong Kong act as a 'smokescreen' to hide the urgency of action needed to solve the critical air pollution situation. Implemented in 1987 and no review has been undertaken for nearly 20 years, the AQO is outdated and loose, that only serves to deceive the public. Town planning, environmental assessments and daily API announcements are all based on the AQO as a guideline. We urge the HKSAR government to immediately review and adopt a stricter AQO, redefining the API so that it serves as a real air quality reference for the public to rely on. Please join us to vote for cleaner air!
