China and the environment in 2011

Our toxics team exposed some of the world's biggest apparel companies as polluting China's rivers, plus we took Tesco to court for illegal use of pesticides, sought to save the Hainan gibbons and revealed toxic heavy metals in childrens' toys. Here's a look back at China and the environment in the year that was 2011. 

Polluted rivers, disappearing gibbons, and too many smoggy days - there's no doubt China experienced its fair share of environmental problems this year. But at the same time there were a lot of great, green wins, such as changes in the textile industry thanks to our Detox campaign, and raising the air pollution debate in regards to PM2.5.
