These before and after photos of dredging at Gladstone seem like a nightmarish premonition of what could happen if Adani's plans for the Carmichael mine go ahead.
During the hugely controversial dredging campaign at Gladstone, 21 million cubic metres of seabed was removed. Vast quantities of sediment were stirred up, multiple mass fish kills were blamed on the dredging and a breach of the bund wall containing land-dumped material resulted in a toxic algae bloom.
It's no surprise that dredging millions of tonnes of seabed to make way for coal ships will have a negative impact on the Reef - but these photos show just how bad it was last time. Act now to stop this happening again.
